US Stryker in DemandGeneral Dynamics reported as benefiting from a US Army new vechicle program to start in FY 2010. There is strong demand for Stryker vechicles by military commanders. Just because the FCS program was previously scrapped (due to refocus on priority requirements etc) does not mean that demand goes away, the US Army has a big investment in large quantities of Stryker vechicles which are aging, need of replacement and updated armor, as well as new needs.
A 120-day review finished in early September concluded that the Army needs a new vehicle that offers greater protection, mobility and networking capabilities than the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle built by Britain's BAE Systems Plc.
Spoehr said the Army study also calls for a vehicle that could operate in a confined urban space or off-road, and which offers protection against roadside bombs similar to that of the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles.
The General Dynamics website (Procurement) has an RFI for the Stryker vechicle for a Weight Reduction Initiative (WRI), with the submission deadlinme extended to Sept 30, 2009. This should bode well for Cymat technology as well as Stryker vechicle in demand (Retrofits/New vechicle) as well as Canadian side (Coyote etc).
