The part that is the most disturbing for me, is not that people are trying or hoping for a better future, but that they don't look at things realistically. Look at the fuel cell thing. How many millions, (maybe billions) were wasted on fuel cell research when the practical application for them was not realistic for most targets, let alone for light vehicle use; and the outcome could be seen or predicted from an armchair based on high school physics. If Westport had the money Ford spent on advertising alone (remember that 1/2 ton truck with the tail pipe that looked like a drinking fountain?), they would be leaps and bounds ahead of where they are, not to mention all the Gov't R&D money that was allotted to the likes of Ballard though out the tech bubble pipe-dream... what Westport does is not sexy; its practical, realistic, and with the right degree of incentives it's just what the world (and in particular Canada and the United States) needs for so many different reasons...
