WABAMUN,Alta. - Prime Minister Stephen Harper says carbon capture and storagewill define the future of Canada's energy industry.
He says that's why Ottawa is investing$343 million in a coal-fired electricity generation plant in Alberta.The plan is for the plant to use leading-edge technology to capture andstore underground up to one million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
The money is coming out of the federal government's $1-billion clean energy fund.
TheAlberta government is also throwing a total of $436 million into theTransAlta Corp. (TSX:TA) plant at Wabamun west of Edmonton.
Harper was in Wabamun to make the announcement and is to meet with business leaders in Edmonton later in the day.
