RE: Orko - Does NGD worry you?
RE: Orko - Does NGD worry you?Not in the slightest.
Since beginning operations in 2007, New Gold subsidiary Minera SanXavier has blasted apart hills that loom over the village of San Pedro, founded in 1592. Workers destroyed old mine works and tunnels to get atlow-grade ore left behind by colonial-era miners, then trucked therubble to giant beds and doused it with cyanide-laced water to leachout flecks of gold
Totally different story here!
La Preciosa has not been the target of massive cyanide leaking since the 50's ;-)
So no, I am not worried about that! In New Gold's case they probably have to bear the brunt of earlier mishappenings in the past beyond their control and a long time build up of resentment of the community throughout all these years.
There are plenty of producing mines in Mexico that do so with the approval of the Mexican government. Opening a mine in Mexico is far easier than it is opening one in Canada or other places.
Also, last time I spoke with management I also asked about something like, what does Orko do to ensure a good relation with the locals.
Well, turns out that they indeed spent time....and funds to help out and improve relations with the local community. Now, unlike with New Gold, Orko does not have a city in the nearby vicinity, The closest one is Francisco I Madre and that is like 65km away.
They are in very good understanding with them and help out where they can. Building roads, stuff, housing,...
Also, PAAS has a record of getting mines into production and they have the necessary funds to do it environmentally friendly or at least with any cyanide leaking ;-)
Don't take my word for it, call management and ask them if this is a concern of yours.
They will tell you the same.
