This week - Coldest weather in USFrom accuweather today
The atmosphere is right on schedule. On average, most of the United States receives its coldest weather from the first week of December through the first week of March. Appropriately, a large mass of arctic air has moved southward out of Canada and now occupies much of the Intermountain West and the Central states. The cold will become even more widespread in the days ahead.
Thursday, high temperatures will range from the teens in the Dakotas to the 20s as far south as the Texas Panhandle. The entire Midwest will also be in the deep freeze with highs from the 20s in the north to 30s in the south.
The forcing of the cold air up against the eastern slopes of the Rockies will cause snow to break out through southern Colorado and eastern New Mexico Wednesday night and Thursday. The high elevations of northern New Mexico could easily get 9 or 10 inches of snow during the next 24 hours.
The snow will spread into central and eastern Texas Thursday night and Friday.
Let's hope !
