More on virtual pre-paid visa

Virtual cards

A Visa prepaid virtual card is specifically designed for use on the internet.

It’s a good option for people who want to buy online, but might not qualify for a conventional credit or debit card.

It’s also ideal for people who want to keep their online spending separate from their main credit or debit card.

With a Visa prepaid virtual card, you don’t actually receive a physicalplastic card. Instead the issuer will generally provide you withdetails of a card account (such as the card number, the expiry date andthe security code) for you to use online.

For example, some issuers may provide an electronic image of a card ona webpage or in an email. Others may give you a reference card(possibly made of cardboard or in flexible plastic). This means that aVisa prepaid virtual card cannot be used in ATMs or in physical shops.
  • Control – your card can only be used online or over the telephone, and you can keep your online spending entirely separate from your everyday spending
  • Secure – you have the same level of security and protection that you would expect from any other Visa card
  • Flexibility – because it’s a Visa card, it can be used at any websites that accept Visa payments
(taken from a European website) ------------

And at Red Flag Deals, 50% of the respondents in a poll have used or intend to use a prepaid credit card. There seems to be little in the way of virtual prepaid visa...more complaints about the products that are not available in Canada. It seems that there is no current supplier of virtual credit cards.

Also here's an article that was published a few weeks ago about virtualdebit cards, it's got some good info on the audience for virtual cards, the usage, and the benefits.
