Dr. Jose Melendez BioJose Melendez
Director, Microcomponents Technology Center
Texas Instruments
Dr. José Meléndez received his PhD in 1994 in Electrical Engineering from the Solid State Laboratory at Stanford University. At Stanford University he was a National Science Foundation Fellow and a Stanford Center for Integrated Systems (CIS) Fellow. Dr. Meléndez received his BS (1990) and MS (1991) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Melendez joined TI in 1988 as part of the MIT VI-A internship program. He joined the company’s Sensors and Infrared Laboratory as a Member of the Technical Staff in 1994 upon completion of his PhD. In early 1997, Dr. Melendez was promoted to branch manager of Analytical Sensors where he led a group of professionals in research and development activities related to advanced optoelectronic (bio)chemical sensors. Dr. Melendez is now Director of the Microcomponents Technology Center (MTC) in the Mixed Signal Product Development division of the Semiconductor Group. MTC is responsible for the development of new mixed-signal products based upon sensors and micromachining technologies. He has over a dozen U.S. and international patents pending in the areas of sensors and semiconductor technology.
Dr. Jose Melendez is an accomplished leader in wireless communication semiconductors, voice/data convergence systems and MEMS through 14 years of contributions to Texas Instruments (TI) combined with 6 years of entrepreneurial experience. Dr Melendez previously served as General Manager of TI’s worldwide wireless infrastructure business delivering high performance RF, data converter and digital up/down converter products for use in 3G cellular base stations. He also established and directed TI’s micro-components technology center, which lists TI’s analog micro-mirror product amongst its list of accomplishments. TI’s analog micro-mirror is used today in products as diverse as consumer printing and in routing of optical telecom network traffic. Dr Melendez also held senior management positions at Commoca, a startup supplier of converged enterprise and residential client devices and services. His significant technology expertise includes 25 issued U.S. patents. His work has been highlighted in national publications including Popular Science and Forbes magazine.
Dr. Melendez received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and BS/MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Melendez is presently a private consultant specializing in the commercialization of system-enabling technologies.
