Another Fractured basement find
Yemen probe tastes oil
Australia’s Oil Search has hit hydrocarbons at the Al Meashar-1 probe, drilled in Block 7 in Yemen's onshore play.
Upstream staff 23 March 2010 02:13 GMT
Oil and drilling fluids flowed to the surface at unstablised rates during a drill stem test carried out over the 3125 metres to 3660 metres well interval, Block 7 joint venture partner AWE said.
A large amount of drilling fluid was lost to the formation during drilling and this is still being recovered, AWE added.
Al Meashar-1 is targeting a fractured basement play in a structured defined by a 3D survey shot in 2008.
Oil Search operates Block 7 with a 34% stake.
Its partners include AWE’s subsidiary, ARC Energy (21.25%), Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (21.25%), Yemen General Corporation for Oil and Gas (15%) and Mitsui E&P (8.5%).
