Australian mining group Discovery Metals Ltd(LON:DME) said this morning that the latest drilling results from its Boseto copper project in Botswana confirmed the potential for a significant increase in the resource base at the site. Results from the latest five drill holes at the Zeta prospect show that mineralisation continues for more than 650 metres below the surface – and 250 metres below the base adopted for an earlier scoping study on the project. This means that Discovery may consider building an underground mine on the prospect, which its said could have a life of 15 years.
The Zeta prospect forms part of the mineral resource base for the Boseto bankable feasibility study. The prospect currently contains mineral resources of 35.4 million tonnest @ 1.4% copper and 22.3 grams per ton of silver. The latest drill results will be included in a new estimate of the Zeta mineral resource that will be completed later this year in conjunction with a pre-feasibility study on underground mining at Zeta.
Discovery’s managing director, Brad Sampson, said: “We are currently reviewing the consultants' contributions to the bankable feasibility study on open pit mining at Boseto. These drill results add value beyond the current scope of the Boseto copper project and increase the possibility of underground mining in the future.”
