Market makers control the bid/ask on the otc paper trade and that is how they make their money. Often they don't display the highest bid or lowest ask, so never buy or sell at market. The MM's could also have an odd leftover lot they just record as a sale at the end of the day.

The Toronto venture exchange doesn't have the same degree of manipulation, all bids are displayed except minimum fill orders. Mischa, maybe you should go with a different online broker - 9.99 is the norm.
