Would you buy Mafia stock?

Would you buy Mafia stock? If the Mafia were taken public--probably with Goldman involvement--I wouldn't purchase its common stock.  I don't care if it's priced below book and has a PE of 1.0.  I assume Cosa Nostro is profitable, since it underpays taxes by huge amounts. Even if it promoted itself as the "All-New Mafia" with the slogan "We Are Family," I wouldn't bite.  Those guys are criminals, and I wouldn't care to own a piece of that business.  I wouldn't accept shares for free.

Most articles and posts touting BP as a good long-term value fail to pose a question that every investor needs to answer:  Is a corrupt company ever a "good value?"  Do you want to be part-owner of an enterprise that cuts corners on worker safety, that is willing to risk human and animal life to squeeze a few extra profits out of the ground?  I don't want BP at any price.  In fact, I'd sooner own Cosa Nostra stock, since the Mob at least foregoes smarmy ad campaigns seeking to "regain your trust."  I never trusted the Mafia.  Of course, I never trusted BP either.  I just bought their gas, which I have now sworn off of.

I send my best to all victims of this disaster.
