The importance of large stones

The importance of large stones
In the June 15 RBC Capital report on diamond prcies, Des Kilalea writes in regards to Letseng prices,  "The rise in price from May's $1,475/ct was driven in part by more Satellite Pipe goods and also the sale of a 104ct stone for $2.7m ($26,621/ct).  An indication of the importance to Letseng of large stones is that this diamond boosts the average from $1,410/ct to the $1,695/ct actually recorded.    . . .  Besides the 104ct diamond, the large goods tendered included several 10-40ct stones, which realised in excess of $20,000/ct.  The highest price per carat came from a 36ct stone which fetched $1.3m or $36,630/ct."
