compliments of :http://www.thestar.com/article/834In this brave new world, which pits BlackBerry against Apple Inc. and other larger rivals, the competition is merciless and the potential risks devastating.
As an email-centred device, the BlackBerry lags badly in must-have touch-screen capability. The point of Her Majesty’s on-screen floral bouquet was to reassure fretful RIM investors that the firm has, if not an “iPhone killer,” a game-changing new smartphone for September release that will at least stanch the market-share losses RIM has suffered in the past year in a North American smartphone in which it is struggling to maintain its No. 1 sales ranking.
RIM investors have ample reason for continued skepticism. Palm Inc., a pioneer in handheld devices long ago eclipsed by RIM, Nokia Corp. and others, is circling the drain after a last-ditch bid for renewed relevance with its Palm Pre smartphone last summer failed to impress buyers.
