here is the textMosaic (MOS-NYSE) announced it may have to close its 6M tonnes/year South Fort Meade phosphate rock minedue to a lawsuit by the Sierra Club and People for Protecting Peace River Florida. MOS' fell 8% yesterday on the
news. The SFM mine is 37% of MOS' N.A. phosphate rock capacity. MOS has had similar lawsuits in the past and
has been successful, although the lawsuit process has caused delays. The IFA estimates global phosphate rock
capacity at 190M tonnes. The mine closure would slightly benefit phosphate rock prices, and integrated phosphate
mines over non-integrated mines. Phosphate represents 15% of CF's gross margin, 10% of POT's and 5% of AGU's.
If the South Fort Meade phosphate rock mine were to close, the benefit to POT would be more than to AGU long term
as AGU is scheduling to replace its Kapuskasing phosphate rock with phosphate rock imports. Scotia Capital
continues to recommend overweighting fertilizer stocks.
