Bombardier poised to win trains deal
By Avi Bar-Eli

Canadian giant Bombardier is the last company standing in the billion-shekel Israel Railways tender for train cars. Bids by two other contenders, German giant Siemens and the Italian company Firema, have been disqualified.
Bombardier's is the only bid to make the next stage of the tender - the technical inspection. If the train cars pass muster, Railways will start negotiating price and delivery dates.

Bombardier is a known quantity, having supplied Railways' double-decker train cars currently in service.
The international tender calls for the supply of 74 double-decker cars, including ones specially equipped for disabled passengers, and locomotives powered by diesel, for delivery within five years.
