High Sulphidation ...Centurion Confirms High Sulphidation Style Alteration Associated With Gold Values in Properties Adjacent to Miwah Epithermal Gold Discovery in Aceh Province, Sumatra, Indonesia
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Sep 30, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX News Network) --
Centurion Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE: CTN) ("Centurion", or "the Company") is pleased to announce that exploration activities of a planned $5 million exploration program are accelerating with geological field crews fully mobilized and base camps established at two epithermal gold prospect sites (Leuping and Lee Cuko) in Aceh province, Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Senior management has recently concluded a field visit and reports that geological mapping and geochemical surveying at the sites are well underway. The field work program objectives are to advance the prospects to drilling stage by the first quarter of 2011.
A map showing the location of the Leuping and Lee Cuko mineral prospect areas can be viewed here: https://www.centurionminerals.com/i/maps/banda-raya-area9.gif
Leuping Epithermal Gold Prospect
Multiple anomalies identified by historical exploration within the Banda Raya IUP licence area include the Leuping high sulphidation epithermal gold prospect which is located approximately 5 kilometres (km) to the north-east of the Miwah epithermal gold discovery. At the Leuping prospect, results of recently completed preliminary reconnaissance supported by limited bedrock/float geochemical and spectral analysis have confirmed the presence of multiple zones of high sulphidation style epithermal alteration hosted by intermediate volcanics inferred to correlate with the Leuping Volcanic Unit. Previous operators reported that the Leuping Volcanic Unit hosts the neighbouring Miwah epithermal discovery.
Alteration is interpreted to be high level fault controlled and comprised of mineral assemblages including silica, alunite, dickite, pyrite, marcasite and native sulphur. Associated alteration textures are dominated by partially destructive pervasive replacement; however local secondary vug and/or cavity development containing secondary quartz and sulphide infill is also present, suggesting that rock units locally have experienced a multi-phase fluid history.
Lee Cuko Epithermal Gold Prospect
Results from historic ground exploration work within the (Halimon IUP) license area completed during the 1990s identified several geochemical target areas including the Lee Cuko epithermal gold prospect, situated directly north of the Miwah epithermal gold discovery. Recently completed preliminary reconnaissance supported by limited bedrock/float geochemical and spectral analysis at the Lee Cuko prospect returned sample values up to 0.4 grams per tonne (g/t) Au and has confirmed the presence of multiple high sulphidation style epithermal altered float and bedrock occurrences plus identified near source silica sinter boulders.
Host rocks to high sulphidation style alteration consist of intermediate volcanic flows with lesser pyroclastic and tuffaceous units, inferred to correlate with the Leuping Volcanic Unit. Similar to the Leuping prospect, high sulphidation alteration shows evidence of high level fault controls and is comprised of mineral assemblages including silica, alunite, dickite, pyrite, marcasite and native sulphur.
