Humvee Recap Moving to Front & CenterAccording to Defencenews (Oct 7, 2010):
- Efforts to modernize the Humvee are moving to front and center, as both services (Army/Marines) are teaming up to launch a recap program in 2011.
- The Army plans to release a draft request for proposals in November, according to an industry source.
- The formal request for proposals is expected in January from the Army's program executive office for combat support and combat service support, industry sources said.
- For this to happen, Army acquisition executive Malcolm O'Neill would need to approve the recap program's structure and goals. And Congress has to approve the funding.
- According to one industry source, the Humvee recap effort is anticipated to take 15 years at an annual pace of 5,000 to 7,000 vehicles. The Army has 154,000 Humvees.
- The Pentagon will assess the vehicle programs for its 2012 budget, due to Congress in February.
