blackrodKLunsen,
thanks for posting the link for the SAGD application. I read all 300+ pages of it and must say I was totally naive about what level of geology and engineering is required to apply for something as seemingly harmless as drilling a horizontal well pair with a injector overlying a producer and injecting steam. I am a grizzled old geologist but have never been involved in a enhanced oil recovery project. The amount of data required is phenomenal and I am humbled by having read it. What is abundantly clear to me is that the formation characteristics required for this pilot to work have been satisfied with respect to bitumen pay, permeablility, viscosity gradients with depth and underlying aquifer. They have excellent well control with all wells cored in order to make these assessments. Furthermore, their bitumen resource calculations have undergone tremendous scrutiny by the ERCB, a far cry from a previous poster's comments about the "internally generated" resource numbers and all that commnet implied.
In my humble opinion there is no reason whatsoever to assume that this pilot will not be an overwhelming success and I am looking forward for the first steam to start flowing. This is a very exciting project indeed. thansk again for providing the link,
luke
