GSYour quote:
"there is always an element of gambling"
is in my opinion wrong. One never gambles in the stock or commodity markets, one ALWAYS speculates.
When gambling, you put down your bet and that's it. You can't change your mind and get out. You can't quit while you're ahead or to avoid a total loss. In gambling, once you put down your bet it is either all or nothing.
Betting the horses for example, you might favor a horse that is always fast out of the gate only to later not being able to keep up the speed and lose. Gambling you surely will lose, speculating you can take advantage of this knowledge.
In gambling you have to wait for the outcome of the gamble, you can't change your mind. In speculating can exit when ever you feel like, speculating in the markets you can monitor your "bet"..
Big difference.
