If I MayBeing in the position of just finishing up a couple of the successful plays out there (MDR-Mansfield...not a promo as the deal is basically done and ANM -Antares) and completed another a few years back (WKR - White Knight) can I offer a few suggestions.
1) Time - It appears this play is just beginning. I think mdr is a good example of how these things can take 10-15 years to play out. So be prepared for lots of ups and downs and potentilal huge changes in the metals markets. It can be a long wait. Waiting over the winter when drilling isn't going on can be painfully long, be prepared for that.
2) Share Issues/Dilution - this is the only way they can get money and the buyers of these private placements are doing it only because they think they can get a higher price later. What other option is there for the company? Drilling is expensive and that 6Mill will be chewed through very very quickly. Equipment, fuel, labour are very expensive in the north. Also, markets change and not too long ago there wouldn't have been a snowballs chance in hawaii they could have raised these funds. That being said mdr is now only at 47mill shares issued and they have basically fully drilled the property. Dilution isn't good but it all depends what asset value they can add to the shares. Gpd's 70 or so mill shares is a lot issued and there will be more issued before long. That could be a problem unless they really build the resource fast.
3) Insider Shares - insiders need to eat to, so this is how they get paid. Mdr was a bit different in that management gets paid good cash as well as some options. No problem with that if they produce the goods so forget about it.
4) Management - experience is everything. If they have done it once that gives them invaluable experience to do it again. No question there.
5) Assay Results - theres not a person on this board who can say that these last results were good or bad. That is BECAUSE they have no idea at this point what it will cost to extract that gold out of the ground. The mdr site is ammenable to a heap leach type mill which appears to be relatively cheap to mine, like under $400/oz. If GPD is doing hardrock mining that I would suspect is going to be a different cost structure. And knowing that is years and years away. Those are big continous runs of gold showing but that means only so much at this point. On the other hand those are big continuous runs.
Anyway, hope this helps someone. I own a small amount of shares that I bought 6 months ago. Not sure at this point whether I will add more or not. If I do it won't be at these prices. You will see over the winter there will be better entry points almost guaranteed.
Good luck to all of you. It is one helluva feeling grabbing a winner especially after years of waiting.
