Creator Tech smoothes iiNet’S transition to Advanced Multimedia Carrier

Deep packet inspection solution a key enabler

Market entry companyCreator Tech has introduced deep packet inspection (DPI) solutions toiiNet to provide a key enabler in the Internet service provider’stransition to becoming an advanced multimedia carrier.

CreatorTech’s brief from long-standing Canadian client Sandvine was to plan ago-to-market strategy, and execute it in Australia and New Zealand.

Thefirst step was to identify key benefits that could be offered toAustralia’s leading ISPs. When used on international links, DPIsolutions save considerable expenses for the carrier deploying them.

Beyondcost-saving, Creator Tech was also passionate about the need forcarriers to take a close interest in their end customers’ contentrequirements. With this knowledge they can offer customers ‘more of whatthey want’ and also optimise quality of service when customers accessthis content.

“In short, service providersneeded to become more like broadcasters – knowledgeable about whatprograms were valued by the audience,” said Creator Tech CEO SteveMackay.

His company approached top serviceproviders, several of which had already had a positive experience of thecompany’s market entry projects. Australia’s largest ISP, iiNet, agreedto meet at senior level.

It transpired thatiiNet had been using a DPI solution for four years, while another ISPthat iiNet was in the process of acquiring was already operating asecond such solution.

To complete thecompetitive picture, one of the two DPI competitors had been using thisISP as a key reference account, and was fighting hard to retain theaccount with attractive upgrades and pricing.

Aspart of consolidating iiNet’s and its acquisition company’s networks,iiNet needed to upgrade international links and manage traffic overthose links. Creator Tech suggested this represented an opportunity tolook at a fresh solution, and carried out a deep analysis ofrequirements.

Creator Tech consultant Pua YeowKhoon said: “We white-boarded how our proposed solution was a superiortechnical fit and looked at future benefits to be derived from increasedcustomer awareness.

“This resulted in iiNetconducting a technical shootout between the competing DPI products. Asuccessful shootout was followed up with a comprehensive proposal whichfulfilled immediate and future technical requirements as well asbusiness implementation, timeline, and cost of ownership.”

Inawarding the DPI contract, iiNet commented that the solution elegantlymet business requirements, while the Creator Tech team’s responsivenesswas the best they had ever encountered.
