Sandvine Completes Interoperability Testing Of PTS
Sandvine a provider of network policy control solutions thathelp fixed and mobile operators in protecting and improving the qualityof experience on the Internet, has announced to completeinteroperability testing of its Policy Traffic Switch or ‘PTS’ with thePolicy and Charging Rules Function or ‘PCRF’ platforms of a number oftelecom companies. These companies include Alcatel Lucent, IntracomHoldings, Redknee and Tekelec. Earlier this year, Sandvine (News - Alert)had demonstrated operability through a joint customer win with Openet,while later on it also announced interoperability with the PCRF ofBridgewater Systems.
When integrated with these policy management platforms, the policyenforcement capabilities of Sandvine also comply with its support of3GPP standards-based end-to-end solutions for operators worldwide.Company’s subscriber, application, location and device awareness forfine granularity policy decisions, actions and reporting complements thePCRF’s function of provisioning the subscriber entitlements as well.
In the words of Tom Donnelly, executive vice president for marketingand sales at Sandvine, the demand for mobile broadband is growingsteadily with over one billion data subscribers online today, accordingto Morgan Stanley. Donnelly continued that network operators are lookingfor products and solutions that can be deployed quickly and effectivelyto keep up with network demand; and pre-integrated products are easierto deploy and can reduce timelines for rolling out new anddifferentiated services.
The network policy control solutions offered by Sandvine featurescalable quota management based on subscriber entitlements usingoptimized rules-based Gx interface between Policy and ChargingEnforcement Function or ‘PCEF’ and PCRF network elements. Apart from it,fair usage policies that allocate network resources among subscribersusing flexible real-time policy control and advise subscribers of actualusage are also included within these solutions, which also enable theparents to limit their children's Internet usage based on time-of-day,application, and duration.
The solutions delivered by Sandvine help service providers inenhancing subscribers’ Internet experience by detecting networkconditions that trigger policies within the network, and its platformsand products provide network policy control solutions for unparallelednetwork reporting, capacity planning, congestion management and newpersonalized service creation.

In February 2010, NTT America’s parent company NTT Communications (News - Alert) Corp. selected a ‘Policy Traffic Switch’ from Sandvine, to be used for a nationwide deployment on its high-speed network.
