The market cap is irrelevant in terms of the debt. If a company has $2 billion in assets and $1 billion in debt, what does it matter if the market cap is $100? If you have assets in excess of your debt and those assets produce sufficient cash-flow to support the debt and hopefully, provide a profit beyond paying the bankers, then you have what is known as a "going concern".

If the market cap is substantially below the net (assets - debt) then you have a seriously undervalued company and a great buying opportunity. One might speculate that the reason CLL is being held down is to attract a potential suitor.
