RE: Bad News for Options Traders

RE: Bad News for Options Tradersgloxinia123...why the sniffing?? (crying) you can buy the contract back if you are that worried...and you made money on the premium and if taken out you make money on the price difference profit.

I hold 6000 shares and sold the Dec 5.00 Covered Call ...is there a risk I'll get taken away (assigned) on, or before Dec 10 - yes - that could happen - but for my enter position to be assigned - everyones contracts would have to be exercised . The process is not that straight forward - as contracts get exercised no one shareholder is hammered it's spread over ALL contracts - I repeat ALL contracts.

Now - if my covered shares and yours are not exercised  (assigned) before, or on Dec 10 - then guess what - you and I get the Dividend!!! even if the shares get assigned on the 18th contract dead line (Saturday 12 noon). Yes you and I get paid on Dec 20th just like everyone else because we were shareholders of record on Dec 10th period!

Now if the SP is at, or below 5.00 (in my case) the option expires unassigned and I keep my shares to sell another Covered Call on Monday Dec 20 if I decide to.

Only once is YEARS of doing Covered Calls have I had even part of my contract assigned before the due date!!!
could it happen -yes... but I wouldn't  cry I make money either way -

Hope this helps the other Covered Call option holders out there.

Cheers
