I think you have answered your own question. The companies that have exchanged the debt for shares invest  in deliberate and unemotional ways for the most part. In this case they apparently see more potential to make a profit by owning the shares than by holding the debt. I wouldn't think they were concerned about IVW's ability to pay the debt back.

The big investors are in a position to influence the company's future through their voting strength so it would be fair to assume, I believe, that they are confident that the future for IVW shows promise and that the stock will appreciate in value. I am personally very pleased to see that we didn't experience a drop in the share price this morning. That indicates to me that smaller investors are not seeing negative implications in this exchange of debt for shares.
