Primary Symbol: NOG

Northern Oil and Gas, Inc. is a real asset company that focuses on acquiring and investing in non-operated minority working and mineral interests in the hydrocarbon producing basins within the contiguous United States. Its business is crude oil and natural gas exploration, development, and production with operations in the United States. Its 300,000-acre portfolio is distributed across the Williston, Permian and Appalachia Basins. Its portfolio comprises 300,000 acres of low-breakeven land with over 10,000 wells. Diversified by basin and across commodity type, its wells are operated by over 100 public and private operators. It engages in oil and natural gas exploration and production by participating on a proportionate basis alongside third-party interests in wells drilled and completed in spacing units that include its acreage. As was stated in the NR, the initial evidence of oil was seen at around 890 metres in the Red River formation, one of the two primary formations we were targetting. This continued for about another 100 metres until we entered the Winnipegosis Sand formation, which is when we encountered the problems in the hole. The samples that were secured during this period will be analyzed to determine the amount of oil found in them, the nature of the oil and other related things.I don't have the exact quantities of oil that was seen on the shaker, but there was obviously enough to gather a dozen samples.
The logging is a different thing all together. The logging procedure consists of lowering a 'logging tool' on the end of a wireline into an oil well (or hole) to measure the rock and fluid properties of the formation. An interpretation of these measurements is then made to locate and quantify potential depth zones containing oil and gas (hydrocarbons). Of particular interest are porosity, permeability, and fluid content. Porosity is the proportion of fluid-filled space found within the rock. It is this space that contains the oil or gas. Permeability is the ability of fluids to flow through the rock. The higher the porosity, the higher the possible oil and gas content of a rock reservoir. The higher the permeability, the easier for the oill or gas to flow toward the wellbore. Logging tools provide measurements that allow for the mathematical interpretation of these quantities.
Analyzing well logs is a very intense and detailed process; as such, we will have several people reviewing them.
