CortinaIntegrated Waste Management Facility Update

EarthworksIndustries Inc., reports through its subsidiary, Cortina Integrated WasteManagement Inc. (CIWM), that the Wintun Environmental Protection Agency (WEPA),the tribal regulatory agency for the Cortina Rancheria, has requested the UnitedStates Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to perform a 401 Certification forthe project.

 

Section 401 of theClean Water Act (CWA) gives tribal agencies, such as WEPA, the authority toreview 404 Permits through a 401 Certification. The 401 Certification ensures that any water dischargedfrom the project will comply with applicable provisions under theCWA. 

 

The EPA will act asthe 401 Certification authorizing agency for WEPA in reviewing the recently submitted 404 Permit application, which CIWMsubmitted to the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE).  The 404 Permitseeks authorization from the USACE to excavate and permanently filljurisdictional Waters of the United States.

 

The project, located on theCortina Rancheria in Colusa County California, is a proposed integrated wastehandling facility including landfill, composting and future recyclingoperations.
