Wesfarmers suspends operations at Curragh mine due to weather

SYDNEY Dec 30 (Reuters) - Australia's Wesfarmers said on Thursday that all mining operations at its Curragh mine in Queensland have been suspended after heavy rains and flooding in the area.

A flood surge near the mine is expected to peak on Sunday, and forecasts show the flood will exceed the peak flood levels seen in January 2008, the company said in a statement.

The company said that the force majeure at Curragh on all exports and domestic contracts declared on Dec. 2 remained in place. (Reporting by Rebekah Kebede; editing Balazs Koranyi)
