Trelawney Intersects 229.00 Metres of 1.32 g/t Gold at the Cote Lake Deposit

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 5, 2011) - Trelawney Mining and Exploration Inc. (the "Company")(TSX VENTURE:TRR)(FRANKFURT:RTW) announces additional drill results from the Cote Lake Deposit on the Chester Project located halfway between Timmins and Sudbury in northern Ontario. Highlights of the drilling program include:

  • Hole E10-37 – 125.23 metres of 0.69 g/t gold
  • Hole E10-38 – 28.09 metres of 1.16 g/t gold
  • Hole E10-39 – 30.00 metres of 0.88 g/t gold
  • Hole E10-40 – 334.40 metres of 1.02 g/t gold including 229.40 metres of 1.32 g/t gold

The highlight of the current drilling is hole E10-40, on section 89+00E, which represents another 100m step-out to the southwest. The mineralized section in this hole returned 334.40 metres of 1.02 g/t gold with a core interval of 229.40 metres grading 1.32 g/t gold, starting at a vertical depth of 180 metres. Additional drilling is planned on this section to determine the extent of mineralization both up and down dip. Hole E10-38 drilled on section 96+00E at the other end of the Cote Deposit, intersected a 28.09 metre section of mineralization at a vertical depth of 350 metres indicating that the zone appears to be coming near the lower depths of an open pit. The new hole on section 89+00E increases the known strike length of the zone to over 700 metres. On sections where significant drilling has been conducted the zone is up to 400 metres in width. The zone remains completely open to the southwest and to the north at depth.

The Cote Lake Deposit consists of low to moderate grade gold +/- copper mineralization which is associated with brecciated intermediate to felsic, and locally mafic intrusive rocks. Mineralization occurs in the form of disseminated and fracture-controlled sulfides which generally correlate to the gold values. Visible gold is commonly observed. The zones are bleached with the prevalent alteration being feldspathic, chloritic and biotitic. The nature of the alteration and mineralization is indicative of a porphyry-style of mineralization.

Greg Gibson, Trelawney's President and CEO commented, "We are very pleased with the continuation of the mineralization to the southwest. The grades and size of the mineralized intervals encountered to date within the Cote Lake Deposit continue to demonstrate the large size of the mineralized system and its open pit potential. Intersections such as those reported today continue to support our confidence in the exploration potential of the Cote Lake Deposit as reported in our October 18, 2010 press release."

With the holiday break over, the expansion and exploration drill program will resume, ramping up to 5 drills over the winter. Four rigs will be defining the extent of the Cote Lake deposit and the fifth rig exploring other targets on the 1,700 hectare (4,200 acre) Chester Property. This will enable the company to explore the wetlands to the west and above previously reported drilling.

Trelawney Mining and Exploration has implemented a Quality-Control, Quality Assurance program to ensure best practice principals are being applied in the sampling and analysis of the drill core. Samples are crushed to -8 mesh then a 1,000 gram subset of each sample is pulverized to 90% passing -150 mesh. Assays have been completed using a standard fire assay with a 30 gram aliquot and an AA finish. For samples that return values of between two to five grams per tonne gold, another pulp is taken and fire assayed with a gravimetric finish. Samples returning values greater than five grams per tonne are re-analyzed by pulp metallic analysis. (Drillhole E10-40 is based on fire assay only) NQ size drill core is saw cut, and half the drill core is sampled in standard intervals. The remaining half of the core is stored in a secure location. The drill core is transported in security-sealed bags to the Accurassay prep lab in Sudbury, Ontario by Trelawney personnel. Accurassay is an ISO/IEC 17025 certified Laboratory by the Standards Council of Canada. In addition to quality assurance controls at the laboratory, blanks and certified standards have been inserted into the sample stream at random intervals.
