RE: RE: TFSA and MartBoth my wife's and my TFSA's are all in Mart stock.  I transferred in stock from my personal account when the buyout was up in the air so my average costs are 12 cents and 18 cents based on the transfer dates.  Up about 250% and 450% in the two accounts  to date (tax free - not bad).

Something to remember when doing 'in kind' stock transfers between accounts is that you cannot claim the loss.  So it is better to sell the stock, transfer the cash and rebuy the stock in your TFSA account.  I wasn't aware of this so I missed out on claiming the loss as the stock I transferred into TFSA's was valued at 48 cents.  Oh well, I know better for this year!
