I've noticed this pattern too. This is a recent change - previously there was a long standing pattern that the price of gold was hit suddenly just before the London AM fix, and even more so just before the London PM fix. See:

If this pattern is an indication of manipulation, then the manipulator has changed tactics recently. It probably is easier to move the price in the low volume off hours electronic market.

Or maybe it's all just an incredible co-incidence.
