RE: RE: RE: RE: TV technology and signal shopping

"Wow 27" vga.. you held out till now.. amazing !!!!" -damameke

"Well at least your not upgrading from a 12" B&W. :)" -techperson

LOL! No kidding, eh? Just imagine all the potential demand. At the risk of preaching to the converted, note that providing signal is much more expensive than the cost of the screens and theatre components when amortized over several years. I also note that nobody regrets better (more expensive) TV screens and signals. There is no going back. Our late adoption may not be typical but I bet there are many Canadian consumers who are planning on upgrading their now "old" flat panel televisions.

In my defence, we were early adopters of widescreen monitors, dual monitors, digital telephone, etc.

Thank you aclcmc, oris99, damameke, techperson for the suggestions.

+ I thought the sweet spot was around46" to 50" but if I understand correctly, as long as a 55"one isn't too expensive, go for it.

+ Plasma has many advantages but everybody seems to prefer LCD/LED.

+ Looks like our monthly cable bill is about to go up......  Glad we own a BIG basket of Canadian wireless/cable service providers.

+  I tend to prefer stand-alone components, and I definitely intend on hooking up a PC with internet access.  No gaming here but the advantages of input flexibility are noted.

+ I can imagine price-shopping a brand name item at the big box stores.  How about the 5.1 speaker system?  Any shopping suggestions?  Big box stores too?   Speakers are tough to "try out" in the typical noisy electronics store.

BTW, the core of the sound system consists of a Realistic receiver-amplifier that dates from the late 1960s. :-)  From my grandmother's estate.  The current $25 speakers came from a garage sale.  And before you jump to conclusions, I can follow complex time signature shifts, decompose layered guitars and pick out the production value extras--in stereo--and still play loud enough to make the dishes rattle.  Now imagine what I can do with a sub-woofer......
