Seeing that cell phones weigh about 100 grams on average (about 4 oz), from that article (our friendly neighbourhood basher posted) it says: "Over 300 tonnes of electronic material must be melted to yield just 150 grams of rare earth metals."
So using simple math it requires about 11 million oz or 2.75 Million cell phones to get 150 grams of rare earths. So 800 tpy is about 800 Million grams of rare earth needed/year. So you need 14.6 Trillion cell phones to be recycled/year!
So every person on the planet needs to recycle 2100 cell phones per year or about 6 per day/person assuming the everyone has a cell and there are about 7 Billion people on earth.
Ahhh...hmmmm...I don't think so...
