“The guidance suggests similar production to 2010, but at higher costs,” BMO Capital Markets analyst Andrew Breichmanas wrote in a note.

Analysts were expecting higher production than 2010, and at significantly lower costs than what the company reported. The main reason for the divergence is the Samira Hill mine in Niger, which will be processing transitional and lower-grade ore.
