'Kao Diamond Mine in the remote Botha-Botheregion is the most prominent venture of Global Diamond Resources (GDR),which declared in its most recent report that the mine was now regularlyproducing large diamonds (greater than 10.8 carats) and that more than 3000 carats had been recovered since the onset of production. GDR saidit was confidence-boosting to know that the Kao mine confirmed Lesotho’sreputation for the size and quality of its large diamonds, adding thatan increase in capacity was imminent, thanks to the commissioning ofthree onsite crushers to substantially enhance tons per-hour treatment.
The latter will greatly assist in the recovery of large diamonds -particularly useful when GDR’s long-term target is the achievement ofmore than 500 000 carats per annum from the Kao operation. Resourcesthere are said to be confirmed to 600 metres, with more than 147-milliontonnes of proven and probable reserves.
To further assist in attaining company goals as soon aspossible, a treatment plant has been commissioned and bulk sampling. Thecompletion of a temporary tailings dam was said by GDR to indicate thatthe plant was ready to move to double-shifts and herald a noteworthyincrease in plant efficiency and performance. The addition of anUltrasep High Rate Thickener was also deemed essential, as thistechnology is used to recycle as much as 75 percent of the water used bythe plant, thereby greatly reducing the plant’s water requirements –particularly useful during the dry winter season.
GDR declared during the previous review period that it continuedto seek funding to increase the development of its existing assets: amid-2009 announcement revealed that Trilliant Exploration Corp - a fullyoperational gold mining company with concessions in Ecuador - hadacquired a minority stake in privately held GDR. The US$ 2.42-millioninvestment was reportedly made by Trilliant Exploration’s wholly-ownedUK subsidiary,
Trilliant Diamonds Ltd. GDRmaintains a 93 percent interest in the Kao Diamond Mine, which theinvestor’s consulting analysts declared has “considerable upsidepotential and could turn out to be a world-class deposit”.
GDR also revealed during this review period that it was workingtowards being floated on an international stock exchange, making anInitial Public Offering (IPO) and securing project finance loans frominternational banks. Its mission is to establish itself as a significantdiamond producer within the next five years and by doing so, generatenotable wealth for all stakeholders. Through the application of soundand proven business strategies to exciting new investment andexploration opportunities, the company says that it is already changingperceptions in the world diamond market.'
