THANKS BEAVERTAILInternet billing plan opposed
By Lino V. Lomedico, The Windsor Star February 7, 2011
Bell Canada has applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to introduce usage based billing for our Internet usage. Beginning March 1, we could be charged per byte just like Smart phones.
In a nut shell, we will be paying much more for less, don't forget to tack on the 13 per cent HST to these increased fees. Bandwidth will be reduced to 25 gig per month.
What that equates to for most of us is our Internet fees will double or more per month.
Once again, a huge conglomerate is implementing these punitive fees, gouging consumers. Internet use is now almost a necessity in today's world and one company clearly has a monopoly and is raking consumers over the coals.
Unlimited Internet access as we know it will be a thing of the past. It's totally disgraceful that the CRTC would allow consumers to be gouged.
The increase in costs are as follows. Once 25 gigs are exceeded, $2 per gig up to a maximum of $60 per month in addition to our regular monthly charges.
We as consumers are constantly faced with increases in user fees, utility costs, fuel, and the list goes on.
This will be a huge hit on those that are on fixed incomes, seniors and all others trying to make ends meet and simply trying to provide for their families.
We can make a difference.
I urge my fellow Canadians to contact your MP. Voice your opinion. We can make a difference.
