David Stein @ the VRIC

David Stein @ the VRIC

This post is rather late by two weeks but after reading metcoalfan's Vancouver Resource Investment Conference post on MTO's bb, it inspired me to share my brief encounter with Mr. Stein at the VRIC. Our conversation went something like this:

DVM: "Hi Mr. Stein, it's great to finally meet you. I keep telling my family and friends that you guys at Aberdeen operate a great little mutual fund like company and we can have it at a 50% discount."

DS: "Well thank you."

DVM: "I wanted to congratulate you on your warrant purchase [back in October] and I wish I had followed you on that one instead of owning the common shares."

DS: "You know it's kind of funny that the stock started taking off right after I did that."

DVM: "Hey perhaps you should by more!"

DS: "Well to be honest, I would prefer to buy the common if I were to make another purchase. The warrants are a bit risky [at 20 cents] since it would need to go to about 1.20 before you would break even in a year."

DVM: "I know you are bullish on gold and commodities in the long run, but what is your outlook for gold in say the next 3 to 6 months?"

DS: "Hmm I'm kind of agnostic on gold right now. It has gone up so much in such a short amount of time so this correction could last for some time. Also the European debt crisis could give the US dollar some strength as well."

DVM: "Lastly if you don't mind, what is your top stock pick in your personal trading account?"

DS: "Geez that's a tough one [10 second pause]. A lot of stocks have gone up so much so fast, but if I were to pick one [another 10 second pause]. I'd go with Castillian Resources."

DVM: "I'll be sure to check that one out. It was nice meeting you and thanks for answering my questions. I hope to see again here next year."

DS: "Ok great."

I haven't taken a position in CT which may probably be another opportunity loss for me. He definately seems to know his stuff and has the track record to prove it. Now let's all start emailing Mr. Stein and encourage him to buy more AAB.
