In another strong indication of market recovery, the company’searnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA)climbed to $1.43 billion, an increase of 118% over 2009.
Production from its independently-owned and joint venture operationsin Botswana, South Africa, Namibia and Canada yielded approximately 33million carats in 2010. Debswana Diamond Company, a joint venturebetween the government of Botswana and De Beers, recently launched theCut-8 expansion project at Jwaneng mine, the largest ever investment inBotswana. The venture is expected to yield 100 million carats worthapproximately $15 billion over the life of the mine.
De Beers cites western market recovery and emerging markets as foundations for continued growth.
