Positive results with longer trucksIn an article of "Dagens Industri" (a swedish financial newspaper) dated 4.3.2011, you can read about the outcome of a swedish two-year study with 30 meters timber trucks with gross weight of 90 tons.
Compared with regular trucks, with a gross weight of 60 tons, the savings of diesel were 71 tonnes and reduced emissions of carbon dioxide was 180 tonnes.
In addition to lower fuel consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions, there was a lot less wear on the road surface compared to with a conventional timber truck!
Continued in the article can be read that politicians are positive to the study and look forward to the use of longer trucks in other areas (eg ore shipments).
I believe this will have a great impact for giving the license to use heavier trucks!
And maybe 90 tons gross weight instead of 60 tons which is standard on swedish roads.
