WELLINGTON, March 11 (Reuters) - New Zealand's LytteltonPort lifted force majeure on coal shipments from statecoal miner Solid Energy, the company said on Friday.
Force majeure was imposed after the port's facilities weredamaged in the Feb 22 earthquake, which struck the country'ssecond biggest city, Christchurch.
The port company, which exports around 2 million tonnes ofcoal annually, said the lifting of the notice was conditional.
"LPC is not able to currently meet the minimum loading ratesand the minimum depth alongside the berth that are set out inthe coal handling agreement," it said in a statement.
State-owned Solid Energy had also declared a force majeurenotice to its export customers.
Force majeure is a contractual clause that allows companiesto miss deliveries because of circumstances beyond theircontrol.(Reporting by Gyles Beckford)

PERTH, March 11 (Reuters) - Global miner Rio Tintohas lifted its force majeure on its Clermont coal minesin Australia's northeast Queensland state, the company saidFriday.
"Three of Rio Tinto Coal Australia's mines in centralQueensland have now lifted the force majeure from salescontracts declared in late December 2010 as a result of severeweather events," a spokesperson from Rio Tinto Coal Australiasaid, but added that a force majeure remains in effect at Rio'sother operation in central Queensland, Hail Creek mine.
A force majeure is a legal let-out suspending salesobligations due to factors beyond a supplier's control.
