RE: RE: cr*p
RE: RE: cr*pI am continually perplexed by the opposition to allow fracking.
Do you all remember the story that made headlines all over the world about the entire town that became deathly ill because of the drilling and fracking that took place near their small town ? I don't either because it never happened.
I would like to see one real example that could be studied.....and I don't mean some outrageous propaganda like that debunked film "Gasland" (I wonder if that film was funded by some environmentalist group). I'm sure if this evidence did exist it would proudly be paraded in front of the oil and gas industry by those who vehemently oppose the process. Where do the people who oppose fracking think THEIR natural gas comes from?.....a magical place rich in the resource but void of inhabitants. That is utterly ridiculous. Natural gas fields are (of course) near towns and cities that are suffering no ill effects or else they would be shut down. Do you really think that these local governments would allow the operations to exist if it were harmful to the residents? They would be replaced at the earliest election and most politicians prefer to stay in power. If these people are so concerned about the health of everyone why aren't they lobbying for a ban on all natural gas exploration everywhere? Why do they even use this horrible resource? Maybe they could volunteer to cut off their natural gas supply in their own house for a few months (preferably over a harsh winter) to prove their point. They would probably change their tune as soon as their children complain that the house is too cold.
I am disappointed that the Quebec government wants to study this process further. Are the million wells (literally) that have been drilled and fracked not evidence enough? Do they think they will uncover some nugget of information that has eluded everyone? (including the experts in the oil and gas industry).
If a person is drunk and smashes his car into a tree you don't punish everyone by forbidding people to drive cars. You consequence the driver who drove drunk....it's common sense. Therefore, if a company does not follow the rules and guidelines of safe fracking you consequence them.....you shouldn't slap a moratorium on everyone because there MIGHT be a problem that currently doesn't exist.
I believe the natural gas business in Quebec will flourish, but it will happen later that sooner. For now Quebec will continue to pay two billion dollars per year importing gas from Alberta and turn their backs on employment opportunities, taxes and royalties. However, in the end the almighty buck is too hard to resist and the government will come to their own conclusion that the process is safe and reap the rewards like every other community that supports the industry.
Just my humble opinion,
