RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Dump a fantastic Compafarshooter. Thank you for reconsidering. When you have time, please explain how you think the French government provides a safer product than everyone else.
Safety of course is important and I know from experience that the government can force the most stringent of standards especially when they are unnecessary. As you consider the French government’s success to date you may want to also consider the earlier Chernobyl experience and China’s use and production of coal today. Liberty and Free markets are absent in those worse-case examples and nearly void of any safety at all.
When given a very short leash, government is very good for providing protection and a means to address grievances providing society with increased safety and allowing victims to hold offenders responsible. Too much government provides special interest a means to control others, often with “safety” as the excuse.
The facility in Japan is not described as ‘meltdown’, yet. The strength of the 40 year old design was produced with a profit incentive. Although it was not designed to with-stand a level 9 earth quake, it was equipped for safe shut-down in that event. Unfortunately, the backup generators were not protected from the tsunami.
I don’t know to what degree General Electric will be held responsible by Japan’s victims but, judging by its share price, I don’t see an incentive for a future oversight such as this.
Government on the other hand can only make others pay for its mistakes.
