Yes, it would have been preferable if the company had known about this route change. On the other hand, I can understand, without knowing anything about railroading, how someone in the railroad would use a different short piece of trackage without being too concerned when the load obviously arrived at the destination in perfect condition. I believe the release said this might have first happened in November and it has only caused concern four months later. I think inspectors check every load carefully at the port so there wouldn't appear to be any cause for alarm about contamination along the short diversion.

But, all things considered, this is another glitch that IVW, and its shareholders, definitely did not need, or deserve.
