RE: Japan 'has lost race' to halt meltdown

RE: Japan 'has lost race' to halt meltdownBetter article...this disaster is going exactly as predictions from the ones in the know knew it would.  Panic to the public is the major concern, and the information has been slowly coming to light for joe average to read.

If the entire core leaks out like "lava" as said in article..the lava part, it will boil the water off the floor.  The radioactive steam will move this bad stuff airborne.

Then once the water is gone, it will react with the concrete and emit radioactive gases into the atmosphere.

A tidbit that was uncovered in a department meeting today is that the decay heat off of this type of reactors spent fuel is 5 times greater than a heavy water reactor spent fuel bundle.   There is a trmendous amount of heat in these guys.

Molten fuel is hot alright.

This is a category 6..no doubt, although it has not officially been called that....likely that news will come right around the time it turns category 7.

Costly measures are being taken by the rest of "us" the other nuke plant worldwide to make reports showing the emergency preparedness, and any weakness in the designs, that need to be looked at.  Reactors that are schedualed to go offline for decommisioning could be pushed ahead of schedual....if the fix is more costly than the decommisioning.

Germany took thos reactors offline early...........its political, they were coming offline soon anyways.

Our long term plans are set for 15 years, but the wiggle room for change is going to make this plan very loose...wrt new build, refurb, decommisioining.  If the rest of the world is doing the same as us....there is a very wide margin of just what the future looks like in the next 15 years.
