I should have read the articlebefore posting.  That dr. is out to lunch for the most part.

Criticality is possible, but you would know it...the rad hazard would be pushed way up, and hasnt.

I have no doubt though that a molten fuel puddle is leaking out of a unit.  Heat from decay though...not from fission.  If a fuel mass does reach criticallity...watch out, because you can't moderate a solid chunk...there is no surface area, and the fissions will be internal to the mass.

Exposed, hot fuel is the concern for now.  That robot should get some juicy pictures soon.
