RE: Guyana's First Oil Refinery to be built !Here's the whole article.
Three US based companies say they are investing US$75 Million to build the first oil refinery in Guyana.
The refinery is slated to be constructed in Berbice, and is expected to be completed in 18 months. The companies behind the initiative include, Prime Energy and Keymax.
The Marketing Manager, Vijay Durga, said that the technology that they are bringing to Guyana is not a new technology, but technology that has not been looked into. He also said that many oil refineries use materials that are detrimental to the environment, but the smaller sized refineries such as the one they are building, do not pollute the environment as much.
Mr. Durga also said that the investors are looking to import crude oil to run the operations of the refinery in the first instance, from places such as Suriname and Venezuela. He said that the whole point of the refinery is self sustainability.
The refinery is to begin producing 250 barrels of refined oil daily, increasing to 500 barrels a day within the first year of operation. The project could also eventually include a power plant.
