From what I have read I would say that this isn't a well organized group of protestors who have support and a political agenda. Shouldn't last long. Can't imagine they are well armed.

One thing to remember , mining royalties raised..... exploration investment goes down. Higher government ownership requirement,.....outside investment goes down. The rulers know this, protestors don't.

I would be curious to know if many of the local employees of the mining companies support the uprising? Probably a pretty good lifestyle as opposed to the city dwellers. Expect that the subsistence farmers are too busy trying to stay alive to get involved. Farming should be more lucrative with prices up so maybe they aren't complaining either.
