Found in Translation-Ottawa Citizen magazine.Found in Translation: The Ottawa roots of high-tech’s latest wunderkind

OTTAWA — There was something otherworldly about the share price gyrations Tuesday of Intertainment Media — the social media wunderkind that got its start in Ottawa a decade ago.
Intertainment shares exploded out of the gate, soaring 56 per cent to $3.35 at 10:34 a.m. on the TSX Venture Exchange. Thirty-four minutes later, the shares had slumped 46 per cent, then finally finished the day at $2.25 per share. Nearly 100 million shares traded hands — compared with fewer than 19 million the same day for tech giant Research in Motion.
At its peak Tuesday Intertainment had a market value of $420 million — astonishing in light of the fact its sales in fiscal 2010 topped barely $4 million.
Gene Simmons of Kiss: The rock star is spokesman for Intertainment’s Ortsbo subsidiary, which makes software that translates multiple tongues.
