Time lag between when you buy and settle

Time lag between when you buy and settleWhen you buy a stock there is a lag between the purchase and the settle date. This is because any single stock purchase or transaction can take up to three stock business days in order to “settle” in your account. This is why to be a shareholder on the Date of Record you must have purchased several days before. The Ex-Dividend date serves as a reminder that anyone who purchases on that day foreward will no get the dividend. Always best to call your broker and ask them if you are not sure. The website below calculates Dividend dates. In order to get the Dividend the last day to buy was on April 18'th. If you buy now you won't get the dividend.
