RE: politics
RE: politicsYou give Harper much too much credit. The Canadian economy was saved by Paul Martins refusal to let Canadian Banks merge back during the Chretien years.
Harper wanted the banks to merge and he also wanted us to go fight in Iraq. How soon we forget.
Harper simply will follow the Americans off a cliff if he was led in that direction. He is already talking about building prisons for imaginary bad guys and locking up everybody like the US does.
Name one thing that Harper has done to help the Canadian economy and then list it for everyone to see. The dollar is based upon the price of oil - which is completely out of Canadas control. The interest rates are set by the bank of Canada and not by the government of the day. The present deficit was mostly caused by the dropping of the GST rate - which was done for political - not technical reasons. Plus the size of government has grown by 15% under Harper - after Martin worked so hard to reduce it. Don't believe what Harper says he has done - even the US Ambasador has just pointed out that Harper says one thing and does another.
If the NDP form the government - they will need to move to the center.
Monday will be interesting - I am just hoping that Baird is gone when Tuesday arrives. Harper can still be PM but he will need to continue to play nice in the sandbox.
